gain the attention of major record labels. Sometimes you have to create a
major buzz, achieve huge airplay, moderate sales and even a chart position
before any labels will even look at you twice. A lot of
artists from The Kaiser Chiefs to The Darkness, David Gray and more went
down the route of pressing up and releasing their own records in order to
gain attention. The success that followed got them onto the rosters of
the largest labels in the world and huge worldwide hits. Of course we
can't guarantee that this will happen to all of you ( and we
generally think it's better to release your own records anyway ) , but we certainly can
help you set up the infrastructure to make it possible. We can provide you
with a top quality CD product that is up to market standard, get it for
sale and report and pay your sales directly to you. You also get to keep
100% ownership of your rights.
Indie
- The only way to do it
We have
always felt this was the best way for bands to further their careers and
who wants to wait around for some major A&R man to decide if you should put
your music out anyway. Here at Matchbox we have many resources
and associations with other major companies that can allow you to manufacture,
distribute, promote and release your own record as an Indie artist on your
own label via a reputable well known company such as us. We can even make
it possible for you to enter the official UK chart.
WHAT
WILL WE DO FOR YOU ?
PRESSING AND BARCODES
First you
need a CD that is pressed up to shop standard and has barcodes, ISRC codes
for your songs and is of course registered for the official U.K chart. Luckily our sister
company UK DISCS specialises in pressing CD's, DVD and Vinyl so we can
offer the best prices around when it comes to pressing.
We will
manufacture 1000 copies of your release from a glass master with a 4 page
full colour booklet,
colour dbl sided inlay/traycard and a full colour onbody disc print. We will also shrinkwrap
and deliver them to you in the U.K for FREE. Basically it'll be the
same as your favourite album in the shops. We will supply you with your
own unique barcode ( that you can simply add to your artwork ) and ISRC codes for your release, distribute it and then register it
with the official UK chart company so it becomes eligible for the UK
chart. We take a stock and you have the rest to sell at
gigs, give to friends and show off to your family.

We
cannot guarantee that every single digital company will sell your
songs as they hold the last right of refusal. This has however never
happened to any of our artists.
RADIO
DISTRIBUTION
We
will deliver your CD through our Alternative/Specialist Radio mailing network in
the UK and worldwide. This includes major stations like Radio 1, XFM, BBC
regional stations and various worldwide Internet and alternative stations.
This is to encourage airplay to promote your release. Our
Radio mail out's in the past have resulted in daytime Radio 1, Radio 2, XFM, BBC TV
airplay not to mention a wealth of worldwide Internet airtime. Although
previous artists we have worked with have achieved airplay on 1000's of
worldwide stations we cannot guarantee that every single station or show
we send to will definitely play your CD. Those decisions are made by the
producers of the shows and stations NOT US.
OUR OWN ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION
As
well as promoting your music to outside companies we will also plug/advertise you
directly to our own audience of 6.5 million visitors a year on our website
and to 180,000 + Radio listeners on Matchbox Radio 24 our very own
Internet Radio station. We will use audio adverts that are recorded in
house especially for your CD and will feature samples of your music and
buying info. We will also use special artist
messages, interviews that appear on our website and of course your songs
which we play and promote to our regular listeners all day. Our Radio
station is broadcast through the worlds largest Internet Radio network
Live 365, www.matchboxradio24.com
and My Space.
REALTONES
AND DIGITAL SMS SINGLES
We
will arrange to have a realtone produced for your lead track/single. Your
realtone can be ordered in an instant via text message and we will pay you
a good percentage of the sales.
PAYING YOU YOUR ROYALTIES AND
COPYRIGHT ISSUES - YOU KEEP ALL YOUR RIGHTS.
We will pay you 70% of all sales that
we receive after 3rd party commissions ( average 9% ) including digital
downloads and retail. You can request a sales report including info about
who bought your CD/download and on what date at any point after your sales
start coming in. In some cases we even supply you with the customers email
address to add to you own mailing list for possible future sales. Of
course we cannot guarantee a certain amount of sales but previous artists
we have worked with are now selling 5000+ units or more.
You will keep 100% of your
copyright and publishing
and the deal is non-exclusive so you are free to sign with potential
labels, companies that may want to work with you as a result of your
release. We cannot in anyway guarantee any deals or specific sales
figures. This varies from release to release and depends on how much
airplay and exposure you gather. We will cover all sales postage costs
this is not billed to you.
ADDITIONAL MUSIC TV ADVERTISING
We can
also produce a professional 30 sec TV advert for your release, have it
cleared through the BACC and broadcast it on major music TV stations like
MTV2. This option is an extra add on to your promotion and release and is
extremely good at getting your product noticed and attracting the correct
music buying audience.
HOW LONG
DOES IT TAKE ?
A Sterling package
is not something that happens instantly it takes a lot of working
together, effort and time to fulfill. There are many things to do
from designing artwork and recording your audio adverts to manufacturing
which can take 10-12 working days in itself. We also need to set up
your distribution which can take up to 6 weeks for retail and from 3 weeks
to 4 months for digital. We also need to conduct and arrange your
interviews, upload your audio samples/artist page, put you on our playlist
+ deliver your CD's to Radio. I think you get the message there is a
lot of work to do for both parties and the more you work together with us
the more chance of success we will all have.
We usually like to
start preparing for a release date about 8- 10 weeks before and there is
no end date. It can sometimes take from 6 months to a year to start
achieving good sales, airplay and success. We like to keep going until we
see results so we cannot guarantee to make you the Beatles by Friday. If
you're looking for a quick paying ticket to fame we are not the guys for
you.
