THE UNDERCLASS

"Underclass" are an exciting new five piece Indie rock n' roll band based in Wednesbury in the the Black Country.

The band consists of five members: Darren Jones ( Vocals ) , Paul Shilton ( Rythm Guitar) , Fernando ( Lead Guitar ) , Richie B ( Bass ) and Jimmy Dawes on Drums.

Their incredible long awaited and highly anticipated debut E.P called " England's last chance" will officially be released on Matchbox Recordings via Universal Music Operations on the 26 October 2009.

Matchbox Recordings were lucky enough to recently catch up with the guys from Underclass and the full interview can be seen below.

THE EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

1. What made you decide to start a career in music , tell us a bit about the Underclass history to date ?

We got to together because we wanted to do something constructive with ourselves, but also we started the band because of our mutual love for music and for the fact that we wanted to create music.
 

 2. Who or what are your influences ?

There are lots, but to name a few Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Stone Roses and Shed Seven.

 

3. What modern artists do you like?

Wolfmother, Cage the Elephant and Santogold are artists that stand out among modern artists in our opinion. 

 

 4. If you could choose to record a song with any other artist/band alive or dead who would it be and why?

Probably Jimi Hendrix. This is because his artistry was so intense and his general musicianship is beyond comparison.

 

5. What inspires you to write your music/lyrics ?

Experiences that are encountered in life, good times, bad times and things that stick in our memories.


 
6. Name your all time fave track by another artist ?

That’s difficult, but for now we’ll go with All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix


 7.  What sort of sound can we expect from your forthcoming E.P ?

Raucous    

 

8. What are your ambitions for your music. Where do you see yourself in 5 years ?

Just to keep improving and hopefully to appeal to a wider audience.

 

 9. How would you describe your music and what genre do you think it fits into ?

Happy fight music.

 
10.  Where is your forthcoming album being recorded and who is producing ?

Recording will take place at Jewellery Quarter and the producer will be Andy (OFF RADAR).

11.  In the U.K music and food has combined with celebrity rock and pop stars now appearing and cooking on TV food shows. Please can you give us your favourite recipe ?

Beans and Toast with a Scotch Egg on the side.
