The Krimson are a three piece indie guitar band based in Falkirk.
Stevie Thomson, the main songwriter, fronts the band on guitar/vocals, Colin Dickson
plays bass while Scott Greig takes care of the drums. This is their stunning and epic debut album release through Matchbox Recordings. Featuring a mix of dreamy, powerful, riff powered Indie rock with a majestic, melodic and timeless drive. featuring the top notch songs
"Fall as you burn", "remedy", "All that I want"
and more.
The decision to form up as a stripped down, everything laid bare trio is a reflection of their belief in the impact that their songs deliver even in the simplest of forms.
Up until recently Stevie was the sole songwriter and brought complete songs for arrangement by the band however since moving into their own studio they've started to write together as a band, with encouraging
results. " Erosion " was the first song resulting from this fresh approach.
.
After the top track "Comfort Zone" being released on " The Big Indie
Comeback", a compilation album featuring the best and hottest new worldwide artists and bands, The Krimson have been signed to
Matchbox Recordings for their debut album "Stone Cold Heart"

1. How did you guys meet ? Tell us a bit about
the "Krimson" history to date ? Did you all know each other before
forming the band ?
Stevie:- "Scott and I met through Scott's through Scott's dad Tom.
He's a scottish folk musician and had asked me to fill in on guitar for a few
gigs. Scott was drumming for him at the time. We realised there was a fair bit
of musical common ground between us - not the folky stuff! - so we decided to
put a band together. That was about nine years ago and there have been quite a
few line up changes and name changes since. Colin got involved with what we
were doing about four years ago. We work together in the Fire Service and
initially Colin offered to help recording some demos for us at his home studio,
but not long after that our then bass player left to go to music college down
south, so we asked if Colin would be interested in filling the vacancy.
Although he is really a guitarist, he took up the offer and has been with us
since.
The band didn't become The Krimson until about two years ago when our
other guitarist Dave Shering, was offered a job in Manchester which he had no
option but to take and although we tried to keep things going, the distance
made things unworkable. We tried replacing Dave, but things never quite gelled
with the new guy so we decided to go for it as a three piece and although we
miss the flexibility of having a second guitar sometimes and Dave's creative
contribution to our sound we've settled into the groove now and have no
intention of upsetting what, from bitter experience, is sometimes a delicate
balance between creative tension and the necessity of getting along when
working together in the day to day reality of a band"
2. Who or what are your influences ?
Impossible question to answer completely and we make the effort in our
music not to wear our influences too obviously on our sleeves however we reckon
a lot of the old school rock bands have influenced us all quite a bit - Led
Zepp, Clapton(guitar), Gilmour (guitar), Rush, Wishbone Ash (vibe), Neil Young
( songwriting / attitude ), early Genesis - Gabriel / Philips era ( song
structure). This is by no means an exaustive list because we reckon any music
we like will have some influence on what we produce ourselves.
3. What modern artists do you like? What's the music scene like in Scotland at
the moment ?
Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters have got to be at the top of that list. Snow
Patrol write great songs and record great studio albums. We tend to apply the
adage that "the song is king" when we're arranging our own material
and that applies just as well to the current music scene.... if we like the
song we like the song regardless of genre.
As for Scotland - some great music has come out of Scotland recently.
Travis, Franz Ferdinand, KT Tunstall. The Fratellis are making an impact just
now. There's also loads of really good unrecognized talent, but there's also a
ton of shit to sift through to find it sometimes, but I suppose thats the same
anywhere!
4. If you could choose to record a song with any other artist/band alive or
dead who would it be and why?
Beyonce, Christina, any or all of Girls Aloud!!! WHY? Let me think???
But seriously,we couldn't decide on one answer that we all agreed on so
-
Stevie "It'd have to be Led Zeppelin because no-one has come close
to creating the vibe they did."
Colin " As a bass player it's got to be Jon Bonham because it'd
good to play with a decent drummer for once! Only joking Scott"
Scott "I think for me it would be U2, because among other reasons
their drummer is a better musician than their bass player, just like us! No
offence Colin"
5. What inspires you to write your music/lyrics ?
Stevie "Inspiration can come from anywhere, whether it's a chance comment
from a friend over a coffee, a news story, an image from a novel.....
("Fall As You Burn" was inspired by a passage from a Salmon Rushdie
book "The Moors Last Sigh"), however life itself and the interaction
with other people tends to stir up plenty of inspiration to write. Sometimes,
for me writing is the best way of venting off the frustrations of life!
6. Name your all time fave track by another band/artist ?
Stevie " Suppers Ready - Genesis"
Colin "Time Stand Still - Rush"
Scott " With or Without You - U2"
7. What sort of sound can we expect from your forthcoming album ? Tel us all
about the launch party we have heard rumours it's on a boat ?
Melodic Guitar Rock??? Too close to it to be objective. See the quote from the
Sunday Herald.
The launch party is in Glasgow Friday 24th November at "The
Ferry" . Although quite small (650 capacity) its one of the city's more
prestigious venues. Formerly known as the Renfrew Ferry the boat started it's
career carrying shipyard workers across the Clyde - including the now legendary
Billy Connelly - between the Partick and Renfrew districts of the city. After
it's retirement it found a new home permanently moored in the heart of Glasgow
at Anderson Quay where it now hosts all manner of corporate events, weddings
and of course live music events. The night will kick off with a support band
"The Heyz" from Liverpool ( featuring our old mate Dave Sherring).
We'll play a set from the album plus some other stuff then we'll all have a wee
party till they kick us off the boat. Onto the quayside hopefully and not into
the river!
8. What are your ambitions for your music. Where do you see yourself in the
future ?
Global Domination - what else - or at least making a living doing what we love.
As for the future - We'd love to play some of the worlds' iconic venues - we've
already played at King Tut's, the Barrowlands would be amazing after that who
knows The Budokan, Madison Square Garden??? We'd love to hear our tunes on
radio or hear other people covering our stuff, but most importantly is that we
want to give our music the time and effort it deserves which until we give up
the day job is sometimes hard going.
9. How would you describe your music and what genre do you think it fits into ?
Intelligent contemporary take on old school bluesy rock.
10. Where was your album recorded and who did the production ?
Stevie "The album was recorded in our own recently built studio (Soundsmith
Recording) which I built primarily for the band to record and rehearse in,
although word has spread and I'm now getting a lot of work from other local
bands, songwriters and composers - even got some work from the BBC doing party
political broadcasts (not what I envisaged when I built the place, but all good
experience).
We all had a hand in the production of the album and although that was a
rewarding experience we'd love an experienced commercial producer to work with
us at some point. I've come to realise that making objective decisions about
production for other bands and artists is much easier than doing it for
ourselves, however we're still happy with the results we've produced.
11. Why " The Krimson" where did the name come from ?
The name came about as we were trying to quantify what made us, as three
individuals, different from most of the other musicians who'd come and gone in
our brief history. We came to the conclusion that the extra ingredient that was
sometimes lacking in others was a passion for what we were doing. We'd do this
'cos we can't help it , we'd do it regardless of any acclaim or financial
rewards that came our way - we reckoned it must be in our blood and the colour
often used to descibe blood is crimson. We would have gone with that (The
Crimson) except that when you google The Crimson all that comes up is
references to King Crimson - so we went with the alternate spelling. - The
Krimson.
A bit long winded, but you did ask!

"
Stone cold heart" is an epic debut album of dreamy, timeless guitar based proper songs with a melodic, melancholy but uplifting feel.
These are heartfelt real songs of emotion, life, love and
passion in the mood of The Psychedelic Furs, Big Country
and Spear of Destiny" - Matchbox Radio 24.
The
album was recently reviewed by the Herald. "They
may have an album entitled "Stone Cold Heart"
but the Krimson delivered some red hot rock at the Renfrew
Ferry. Celebrating the release of their debut disc, the
trio took the floating venue by storm with a blistering
set of songs from the new album, playing songs that
positively simmered with musical creativity and pure
emotion..if you see a local gig advertised, it's got to go
in the 'must see' category"
James Trimble, Falkirk Herald.

"The
Krimson don't do anything by halves. Big riffs, giant beats, huge harmonies, and choruses so massive they have their own gravitational pull. Carefully treading the line between
bluesey rock and a laid-back west coast groove,
The Krimson are a band on the up." - Edd
McCracken, Sunday Herald.
