STAY

Stay are a hot new Indie sensation from Barcelona in Spain. They deliver a punchy, groovy and sonic cocktail of modern kitsch Indie rock. They sound like a cross between Teenage Fanclub, early Blur, The Byrds, Big Star, Feeder and The Strokes with a twist of  Madchester and  Brit Pop thrown in for good measure. Their songs are groovy and very danceable in a cool retro fashion and their harmonies are melodic, dreamy and mesmerising. Their very cool new E.P is called " So Slow" and it features the hot and sonic Indie disco single " Awake" and The jangly sing-a-long Brit Pop-esq " So Slow". 

     THE EXCLUSIVE STAY INTERVIEW 

1. What made you decide to form a band , tell us a bit about the STAY history ?

What made us to take our lives to the next level was when each one of us felt that listening to music was not enough to fill our souls, playing became  a need for our existence. Nothing but yourself put into a song can make you feel so good. The rest gets even better when we found each other to become STAY, 4 guys with one mission: we want you to enjoy our music as much as we do.

2. Who or what are your influences?

We are happy  to say that we mix quite different influence in our songs, and that they reflect on the way we play. Gives us a new experience every time  each one of us shares his personal view of understanding music to evolve together to a new stage. To say just a few : Stone Roses, Byrds, TeenageFanclub, Posies, Small Faces, Oasis , Beck, Ocean Colour Scene, New Order

  3. What modern artists do you rate?

Jeevas, Cosmic Rough Riders, Ben Harper, Hoggboy, BigBossMan, Teenage Fanclub, Stands, Embrace, Readiohead, Flaming Lips, Flotation Toy warning.

4. If you could choose to record a song with any other artist/band alive or dead who would it be and why?

Recently we have talked with Ken Stringfellow for a chance to record some tracks but not so ago he had a baby, everybody knows what that means, so, perhaps in the future…

5. What inspires you to write your music ?

The madness about pop music and pop culture that bands like The Byrds, Small Faces, Stone Roses, Primal Scream or New Order have strongly transmitted to us. They have  ideally changed our lives… if we were not born like that. To all of them: Thank you. Stay wants to communicate the same feelings and we’re sure we’re succeeding. The pleasant feeling and shivering that are said to feel when you listen twice to Show Me The Way or I would do are the same ones you feel when you listen to Chimes of Freedom by the Byrds or The Sparky’s Dream by T. Fanclub. They are perfect songs to be in love and feel alive, with only 3 or 4 powerful, magic and perfect chords to enjoy a Friday night in a small-medium size hall  , in a hypnotic concert full of people who are sensitively devoted to the melodies, songs, guitars and…something else.

  6 . Name your all time fave track by another artist ?

It is so hard to choose between so many master pieces, but we would say: " September girls " by Big Star.

7. What instruments do you use ?

2vox, 2guitars( Rickenbacker, Fender, Twin amp, JCM 800), bass, drums and percussion, groovebox

8. What are your ambitions for your music. Where do you see yourself in 5 years ?

Our intentions are: Composing the most perfect and not forced succession of notes which could cause the same pleasant feelings that make us keep on working so hard. The importance of the correct and easily recognizable melodies. Our band auto promotion by means of friendly, electric and versatile concerts. Editing music and being one of the best bands concerning live compositions in the indie-pop scene (the one we know most) and helping other bands who are taking their first steps in this world. In five years we see ourselves recording our third studio album in Martinica and touring USA and Japan,  for the second time!! We hope you’ll like it!

  9. How would you describe your music and what genre do you think it fits into ?

STAY creates its own melodies using a convincing and easy to assimilate sound which is clearly influenced by the 60’s and 90’s British pop and by measured drums rhythms which grow halfway between Manchester and Seattle. Indie-pop.

10. Your new E.P is very retro and 60's esq combined with a massive early 90's shoegazing type vibe. It's poppy, bright and very Indie . Where was it recorded/produced ?

A 4 song EP that includes the hit single SO SLOW. ). Recorded and mastered beetwen the winter of 2002 and the winter of 2003 in Barcelona. Totally DIY. It was recorded by Albert Seguer and produced by Stay and Albert Seguer.

11. Who are STAY and what does each member play ?

Indie-pop band made up in Barcelona, 1998, by Jordi Bel, Jordi Cruellas and Coke Serret. Stay are: Jordi Bel (guitar and vocals), Jordi Cruellas  (guitar and vocals), Coke Serret ( drums ), Xavi Cervera ( Sampler and programming), Iván López (bass).
