ABOUT/HISTORY
ssd represents the product of 10 years of friendship,
coupled with a love and passion for dynamic, forward-thinking music. Following
early jam sessions and a host of scratchy demo's ssd began penning and
recording material in a low-budget home studio. From these recordings the band
refined their sounds and some of this material can be heard here. Following the
success of the myspace site the band are now set to release their debut EP
titled 'Mirrors' shortly after the New Year on Matchbox Recordings. Silence
sparks dialogue are now performing in the Leeds and Sheffield area,
THE SILENCE SPARKS DIALGUE
INTERVIEW
-
Tell
us how silence sparks dialogue came together and your history.
Well we’d been friends for years and
all love writing music, it just became common sense to start trying stuff as a
group. We did a few early acoustic demo’s which went down pretty well, so we
decided to make a good go of it from there.
-
Who
are what are your influences?
We’re all keen on music that evokes
intense emotion… We take a lot of inspiration from more melancholic bands
like explosions in the sky/smashing pumpkins and death cab for cutie.
-
What
modern artists do you like? What are you listening to at the moment?
We’ve got a pretty broad taste at the mo
and appreciate a load of different sounds. Minus the bear are probably our
collective favourite right now, but bands like death cab, explosions, jimmy eat
world, dashboard confessional, early funeral for a friend and Biffy Clyro have
been up there for a long time.
-
If
you could choose to write a song with any artist living or dead who would it
be and why?
We’d probably all choose someone
different…
Gav – Billy
Corgan
Ben – Ben
Gibbard
Ad – John
Fruciante
-
What
inspires you to write music/lyrics?
I suppose our main inspiration comes from
listening to other artists. As a musician of any level, hearing a great track
often makes you want to try put something together yourself. Lyrically our
inspiration comes from poignant moments or times of nostalgia – its better to
write about something you’ve felt or known.
-
Name
your all time favourite track by another artist?
Again we’d probably all choose different
ones…
Gav – your hand in mine: Explosion in the
Sky
Ad – Jesus
Christ: Brand New
Ben – Tiny
Vessels: Death Cab For Cutie
-
What
sort of sound can we expect from your forthcoming ep?
Well we’d like to think its quite varied
and alternative really but there’s not a lot like it. Every track has a
certain softness and ambience, but at the same time we’ve tried to mix it up
a bit.
-
how
would you describe and what genre do you think it fits into?
Well hopefully it doesn’t really slot into
any one genre, some of the tracks are pretty mellow but each track has
something a bit different to it.
-
Where
was your ep recorded and who is producing?
We wrote and produced the whole thing, we
had the gear to do it ourselves n preferred it being our own project. The
mixing seemed to take forever with the amount of layers we needed to create our
sound.
-
What’s
your favourite ssd lyrics?
We’ve had to compromise with this one, its
taken from the ignore the echo’s track.
‘and now
lying back bare, in the snow,
Your tears melt
pathways,
To hearts of
stone’…
Its
basically a metaphor for a personal experience, one that we can all relate to.
