Matchbox
Recordings Testimonials
Paul Ryder, Happy Mondays founder, songwriter and bassist- "We were on the Radio cos Dale from Matchbox F***ing got us on there "
Pete Kerr from the cool Irish label Shore Street Records- "We are absolutley delighted with the phenomenal success of Jonathans first single release in association with Matchbox Recordings ( no 27 on the official Irish charts and no 2 on the Irish Independent Download Charts
) . The promotional boost we received through working with Dale and Matchbox Recordings really helped with its chart entry status. We received a surge in record sales directly after Dales personal promotional interview with Ocean FM which obviously raised Jonathans profile. When launching any new band or artist it can be a minefield. Lots of time and energy can be lost on the technical arrangments for digital distribution and media promotion, thats where we found Matchbox Recordings to be of invaluable help. Its hard enough to have to compete artistically with the major labels and their massive budgets for artist promotion and have the energy to look after the promotion and distribution. Matchbox support let us get on with what we are good at musically (making the music) and Matchbox got on with their job. I would advise any new bands or artists to give Dale a call. Matchbox are really enthuastic about helping to promote new artists...thats really refreshing and encouraging"
Jay Makwana, fast rising U.K R&B singer/songwriter - "I had a massive response from people who said how much they liked the TV advert so I want to say a big thank you to you and your team. This is great news ! Thanks for lettting me know. Very pleased to hear
about the Radio airplay also".
Karen Elisio, Manager of the exceptional new female artist K*Le - "I am extremely happy and completely satisfied with Matchbox Recordings. They work on a very professional level and I found their overall expertise to be at a exemplary capacity. I would highly recommend Matchbox Recordings to anyone in the music industry."--Karen Elisio.
'Natasha Wilson, singer with phenomenal British folk rock band The Myst - "Matchbox recordings are a pioneering gem in the music business. It has been exciting to find people to work with who share our vision of keeping music real and respecting the unique creativity of muscians and songwriters. Their passion is infectious and Dale Olivier in particular is down to earth, with great industry expertise that has shown up time and time again. I trust that I have found the right people to help take The Myst music career to new heights. Thanks for all your efforts Matchbox Recordings !".
Steve Heathcock, New rising Uk solo artist - "I would like to thank Matchbox for finding me and my music to reach a bigger and wider audience. I have always had the support from Matchbox from day one. They really believe in the artist/band that is a good thing in today's modern trends of the music biz. They are always there on the phone or email with new ways and ideas to help get the songs to the masses and on the airwaves. I for one are so glad that my name is on the Matchbox Recordings roster. I believe that any new artist/band should go to Matchbox Recordings so you have a better chance of reaching the market for your music. Big thumbs up to Matchbox Recordings. Long may the grow and grow to a vast empire".
Wikipedia.org.
- “Matchbox Recordings is a plugging and
promotion company incorporating a record label, A&R
Agency and new music Radio station. Founded by Dale
Olivier in 2000, Matchbox has achieved underground
acclaim for their release and distribution of unsigned
acts worldwide. They are famous for releasing compilations
that have achieved national TV, Radio and worldwide press
including Radio 1, Radio 2, XFM, BBC 3, BBC 6 Music, NME,
Q Magazine, National Student and thousands of Internet
Radio stations. Some artists have even gone onto hit the
U.K and U.S.A charts or signed record deals with labels
like Island Records and more”.
Mike
Bayliss,
Covered with Punk founder and vocalist - "Working
with Matchbox Recordings has been a great experience
from sending a demo to them all the way to seeing our
finished album in HMV shops and adverts on MTV. I
have found their attitude fantastic and the whole
experience an honest and enjoyable one I look forward to
spending the future working with them".
Joanne
O, Label Manager and publicist - Warner music/Gallo - "Matchbox Recordings are the forerunners in new indie-pendent
music. They're the new MY space.com of record labels,
utilising not only the talent that majors steal for their
own. You're always bound to find something really special
on a Matchbox Compilation. Head of Matchbox Dale Olivier
is not only professional in all instances, but has the
heart to really work your band for you - for the love of
music alone".
John
Jackson, successful Independent solo artist - "
It can be pretty
hard work trying to establish yourself as an
unsigned, indie artist, and it's invaluable to have a
champion, I
suppose, for your cause - and Dale Olivier at Matchbox
Recordings is
that man. Heading an operation that genuinely cares
about the music it puts out. Technically
accomplished, with an ingenious ability to avoid
getting sucked into a stereotyped view of what successful
music should be. Dale handled the physical and
digital release of my second album "Bad things happen
all the time". The last sales figures I just had
through from Dale list a bunch of CD sales and over 4,000
downloads. The download figures in particular are
incredibly motivating - knowing that all those
people are out there, downloading your music (and
paying for it!) is a great feeling. It's really inspired
me to get going with new material and get it online
ASAP. The industry is going through huge changes at the
moment and it's a really exciting time to be an
independent artist - Matchbox can help keep pace with it
without taking over or insisting on hand over of
copyright etc - they know where you want to go and how to
get you there... top people to deal with.
Jack Harrison,
melodic new solo artist -
"''God bless the boys at "Matchbox Recordings".
As promised they have successfully produced an album of
exceptional quality from up and coming artists around
the globe, including your's truly. My dealings
with them were nothing short of efficient, resourceful
and generally helpful from start to finish. Matchbox
Recordings are a company that can be trusted. I will
always hold an affection and respect for them for
presenting me as an artist by placing me on a
solid plinth of potential at this early stage in my
career.''
Jetking, popular U.K Indie rock band featured on Stay in
the box 3 compilation - "Yep, we found the
Radio show amusing and thanks to everyone on the show
for focusing on our track for ages!. Just checked on
iTunes and our track is the best selling on the album at
the moment by quite a long way, based on the popularity
graphs - we're well pleased !".
Joe Burch from
exceptional English outfit " Joseph and the Jellied Eels"
-The ad looked good,
thank you for all your help".
Jason Tierney
from "Remnants of Tranquility" featured on a Matchbox
compilation - "Once again great work guys,
stoked to have the CD in my hands. Awesome."
Monitor, Indie band featured on a Matchbox
compilation - "Thanks for everything with the
album, it looks and sounds great.
Robert
O' Connor, Irish popstar who recently hit the official
Irish top 60 - "After many doors had been shut, Matchbox Recordings opened their door and
let me in. And not only did they let me in, but they accommodated
me to the best of their abilities during my project with the label. Their knowledge of
the industry was reassuring in times when I needed advice, and still they
won't manipulate your musical direction despite the fact they may know
better ! Put simply, Matchbox Recordings is a place for an artist to grow."

Smith, Manager of Paul Ryder ( Happy Mondays founder ) and
his popular new band Big
Arm. Also head of the hugely successful company Turn
on TV and the label Turn on Tunes - " The enthusiasm and commitment of Dale
Olivier and his team at Matchbox is incredible and unrivalled. If Matchbox
Recordings believes in your music, they will work their level best to get it heard. The attention they give each release
is individual and considered and they behave in a professional and committed
manner every step of the way. Their approach is a breath of fresh air for
sure in the music business".
Louieze,
Independent U.K artist - "I am really impressed with the friendliness and professionalism of Matchbox
Recordings and the way they conduct themselves and act as a becon for all
bands and artistes that are on the periphery of the industry.
Matchbox seems to employ a unique concept in the way it allows the artiste
band the freedom to move forward and at the same time be attached to a
professional Organization in the music industry".
Andrew
Green, living punk rock legend from infamous punk/metal
band Die
Pretty - "Thanks so much for putting
Die Pretty - Summertime on the Stay in the box comp.
Matchbox is exactly the kind of eclectically
minded organisation the independent music scene needs if
it is going to continue moving forward. you guys are
amazing !".
Cool
music website tohellwith.co.uk - " Matchbox recordings are an Independant P.R & record label that have gained notoriety by releasing compilations like this one, which features around 40 unsigned and
Independant bands. The featured acts come from all around the world,
Mexico’s Sexy Marvin, Moldig from italy, Felix Jones from chicago,
Birdfishmen from finland and Oceanbend from glamourous
Preston. There is something for everyone on these two CD's from
Indie to electro-pop, folk and punk and metal, take a look and you might find the next big thing lurking somewhere
inside".
Tony
Bates, Top DJ on 100.7 Highlands
FM - " Matchbox Recordings are true masters
and pioneers of giving independent artists a voice that
can be heard worldwide. Not many companies are able to do
this in such a professional manner and through their
resources, 100.7 Highlands FM (an independent
Community Radio Station) based in Central Victoria
Australia, has been able to promote and rotate many
artists of different musical genres."
Gene
Moore, popular Independent American solo artist -
"I actually had a song stolen by a famous artist and
used without my permission...Twice! I know you've
heard that one before, but this really happened to me.
It's every artist's worst nightmare. So, it was a big leap
of faith for me to get involved with Matchbox, a record
label in another country. They treated me with total
respect right from the start and they've delivered
everything they've promised, and then some. They actually
went WAY beyond the call for me on this last project.
All my emails regarding questions or requests for graphics
and other info were answered quickly if not
immediately".
Mark
Donoghue, Lead singer with top welsh band Blackfly - "Having at first been sceptical about parting with
money to someone we didn't originally know I can now say
we're glad we did. Matchbox Recordings service was
not only quick and efficient but ultimately professional.
Knowing that Matchbox Recordings have worked
extremely hard to put together a professional package in
TBIC 2 makes us feel that the hard work we put into our
songs are now beginning to pay off. The distribution alone
ensures that our music gets heard by more people than we
could have imagined. It's also after the project that
impressed us. Knowing that it didn't simply end with the
album but Matchbox Recordings provide us with valuable
contacts also. Worth every penny without a shadow of a
doubt."
Cliff
Adams, lead singer with popular Indie band Diner
- " It's a very rare thing these days to find
a label that will put so much into championing new
unsigned bands. These bands need all the help they can get
and Matchbox Recordings offer this in abundance. Through
Internet Radio, they have established themselves as a
force in support of many exciting new artists who will
certainly benefit from getting their music "out
there". Cheers to all at Matchbox. May glasses be
raised to you and your continued success "
Jon
" Earl" Grey , lead singer of cool, kitsch and
disco outfit The
Mams - "'Hi Matchbox, just a note to say thanks
a million for the CDs. The print quality, sound and
packaging is excellent. Good communication too. Even the
lorry driver who dropped them off was cool! The Mams applaud you".
Stevie
Thompson, leader of fast rising Falkirk based band The
Krimson - "We got the CD's, thanks. We're
very happy with the finished product and more than happy with the
service Matchbox Recordings are giving us. From the
initial contact until getting the album released they have
always been helpful providing the excellent service they
promise. We think this is a great way for up and coming
bands to make an impact and get much more exposure than
would be possible going it alone, while still remaining
truly independent".
Keith
Harbottle, the man behind classic British pop outfit
"Big Life Desire" - "Matchbox
Recordings helped kick-start Big Life Desire's journey
in pop when the song "Do You Mean That?" was
included on the 1998 compilation Aural Feast - Best
un-herd British (then released under Streamline Records),
and I remember the launch night at the Bull & Gate in
London. The CD was widely promoted (including in
South Africa) and some positive reviews followed (one
likening Big Life Desire's sensitive pop to that of the
Field Mice). It was a great start for me and I'm
very grateful to Dale Olivier for his support back then
(which has led to my 2006 debut single release on
Whimsical Records, which will be aired on Matchbox Radio
24). Matchbox Recordings are clearly giving bands
and artists invaluable exposure and helping them along the
rocky path of pop - long may it continue!".
Paul
Brockman, songwriter and guitarist for popular goth/rock
band Madron
- Matchbox Recordings have been very supportive. Its
been a pleasure you've helped us out with some costs
towards pressing and the CD pressings were excellent. CD
Baby sales have rocketed".
Ross
Ingram, Founder of The Visitors - " Matchbox
Recordings were really helpful when we first started
out. They liked one of the songs "Strange
Religions" from our first demo and agreed to release
it on a compilation album called "Uproar". This
was a great confidence boost for us and when the finished
article arrived through the door it looked totally
professional and sounded great. Our tune was often played
on Matchbox Radio and climbed to No. 2 in the charts.
Great feeling! We have since then sold demos on-line
through Matchbox Recordings and had a massive number of
hits on our website".
Tom
Schulte, head of music for Outsight Radio - "The
Matchbox Recordings sampler is an excellent way for me to
hear dozens of bands in a single sitting and come up with
new gems for my broadcasts like listener-appreciated
tracks from THE FRUSTRATIONS, JOHNNY SIZZLE, and DIGBY
CRANK !".
Dan,
Pistols at Dawn, Hot London rock band - "These
guys make a refreshing change to the spiny, slimey,
corporate fuckwits who populate much of the music
industry. Matchbox Recordings is about the
music, so if that's what you're about then hang
about". Check out the Pistols on My
Space.
Christopher

- "Just wanted to say that we really appreciated
your support and that it's Independent labels like
Matchbox which give bands hope for the future".
Ajay
Chandriani, Head of Music for Internet Radio station Mixed
Bag Sound System - " I was more
than pleasantly surprised by the high quality of music on
The Big Indie Comeback Vol. 1 CD from Matchbox Recordings. I was expecting it
to be just another promo CD with average artists/music,
but imagine my surprise when I caught myself shaking,
snapping, and smiling with the refreshing hooks and
grooves presented by your roster of indie artists. You can
rest easy knowing that eventually most of the tracks on
this comp will make it into rotation on my station. Thanks
again, and keep me in the loop with these new
tunes".
Sweet
Black Angels, Devon based Indie rock band- "Matchbox
recordings are great for any band who are up and coming
and need exposure"
David
Elliot A.k.A The
Vinyl Gibbon, Experimental artist highly rated by
Derek Sivers from CD Baby - There will always be
problems and pitfalls when you enter into the music
industry, and thankfully Matchbox Recordings have been
very helpful and professional in dealing with any issues
that have arisen from the release of my first CD "fourwords".
As an independent artist I would not have had the time nor
the resources to launch my music to the stage it is at
now, so Matchbox have given me a platform to do this. Now
my CD is available on Amazon, CDBaby & iTunes, which
is already starting to open up new doors for me.
Dale Olivier is providing a quality service with a
friendly approach, even if he has been known to wear a
straight jacket on occasion.
Wu from
This
Et Al, , Former
Matchbox band now signed to Jealous
Records and recently featured on MTV and Radio
1) - "Matchbox Recordings' compilations are a

the world but enlisting the help of great staff".

been a great source of quality music for Kooba Radio for
almost 4 years. Dale Olivier and his team provide top
quality professional services for bands in a variety of
genres. Kooba wishes them all the best for the future. If you're a band, get on one of
these Matchbox Recordings compilation albums".
Ian
Stanton from popular new Italian band Baccotabacco - "We've been very happy with the Matchbox
Recordings service. The label offers an unsigned band
valuable exposure and the Radio station obviously has
plenty of listeners. We've had several people contact us
because they heard the song on Matchbox Radio 24"
Yuri
Ivanov from Russian medieval Indie folk sensation
"The Sherwoods" - "We have worked
with Matchbox Recordings for more than one year
since our song "Henry Martin" was published on
the “Spotlight On” compilation album. We
realize that it was really the coolest
idea in the world
to get in touch with Matchbox. People from Russia
order the CD “ Spotlight On ” via the Internet and
they bring it to
our concerts in the clubs asking for our autographs. This
means a lot for us. All
the bands on the CD are really fantastic musicians and all
the people here in Russia enjoy listening them. Matchbox
Recordings have a
professional eye when it comes to looking for new
bands and artists and it was really great to listen to our
song the first time on Matchbox Radio 24. We
have performed a couple of times as an open band for
"Blackmore Night" during their tour to Russia
and spoke with Ritchie Blackmore. Our fans are voting
intensively for us in the Matchbox Radio 24 chart
and we have watched with joy our song move from the no 100
to the no 4 chart position. It is really worth living when you
can see like this day by day. So,
all the best to Matchbox Recordings and we are sure that the time is coming soon when the
whole world will be enjoying all the talents found by you".
Sean
and Sharon Deegan, melodic songwriter and artist -
"Matchbox Recordings have restored our faith in human
nature! Dale Olivier and his solid team at Matchbox are in
our opinion PRICELESS. We have, like many other Indie
artists, trawled through the vast ocean that is the music
industry in search of 'Real' people who genuinely care,
trying to avoid the sharks who just want to take your
money, make false claims about how they can help you and
just end up muddying your journey through. What a find
when we met you Guy's, an oasis full of all the things you
dream of, Caring Staff, Enthusiastic Genuine People,
Honest Folk WHO YOU CAN TRUST...Thanks to Dale Olivier and
his team, we now have a classy professional product,
backed up by professional staff. Exiting times.....(For
those of you still trawling the ocean who have chanced
upon Matchbox Recordings, well done, you have found what
you were looking for!) . Our sincere, heartfelt thanks to
all at Matchbox Recordings".
Spike
Lawless from The Yarbles, hot new 60's/Indie/rock band -
" Working with matchbox has been a real pleasure,
they are an absolute godsend for independent bands. Not
only do they open up a mass of opportunities for bands but
also give them an actual chance of a decent chart
position. The quality of music on 'The Big indie Comeback
Vol 1' was of a very high standard and we are very pleased
to have been involved in it. Thanks again".
Summer
Marshall, A&R - Gut Records - "Thank you for the recent comp you sent us,
it is beautiful. Can you possibly send me some information
about the artists featured ?".
Peggy
MacNeil, Head of Music
Isles FM 103' - "We
would like to say a huge thank you to Matchbox Recordings
for all the music. You are great and we wish you all the
best".
Will
Beattie, A&R - Ruffworld Records -" Ruffworld
Records endorses Matchbox recordings as a stable of
quality music that echoes our own A&R sentiments, from
the street, with hear and soul. Having watched Matchbox
grow over the last couple of years, its easy to see where
the real vision lays in the UK music industry. To
me, the business of music is in the trenches of the music
venues across the UK, and not in the offices of the major
labels. Matchbox recordings will get your music
heard by the industry A&R demons, they will make your
band known to the right people. I personally use
Matchbox as a barometer of music, next to our own
A&R team, Matchbox are the best out there".
Adam
Brierley from hot new band Inner voices who are taking
the U.K airwaves by storm - "Just a message to let you know I received really positive feeback about your podcast Radio show (Stay in the Box2) from myspace friends who have listened in or downloaded it including one person who played the whole show at work today.
They said "Cool show some great music (including yours of
course) !! So you sound like Ian Brodie eh! and Duran Duran! "80's" boyo -
superb!". In addition I've secured even more Radio play and requests for my Kite runner EP from from DJ's who have received the SITB2 CD from yourselves - great job so far,
thanks. I noticed the mastering of 'Kite runner' on your CD is far better than I can do at home!!!. Dale. its a great podast - I've put
a link on my blog for this and its getting a lot of hits
(and some comments already)
Chris

couple of years now and they are a fundamental part of our
business, our on-line buying system is seamless and
feedback from fans regarding delivery, disc quality and
artwork is excellent. After a long hard slog, Rainstar and
Matchbox are beginning to see the rewards of our efforts

the rest of the Matchbox team wholeheartedly.......Thanks

these compilations through a love of new music and an

doubts were settled through there efficient and helpful
service. We have been given a fantastic oppertunity by
Matchbox to get our music to a wide auidience, and even
make money from the release. Remaining indipendant is one
of matchbox's key values, and as a artist this is very
comforting as al copyright is stil owned by us. We look
forward to our future as recording and performing
artists".

are a very good disc company, they really like what they
promote, that's why! "
Dave from
The Tombstone kid, new Indie outfit - "Matchbox
are here for us, the guys on the ground doing there best
to take off, Promoting the up and coming talent that other
labels don't give a chance. Look out for my album out
soon, No doubt through Matchbox, the launch pad for Indie
talent"
Juan
Manuel Ramos from Mexico's top Indie rock band
Sexy Marvin - "We recently supported Coldplay
in Mexico and when we told them we were going on a
Matchbox compilation they said they knew Matchbox
Recordings well and that they were "good guys".
( The first Matchbox office in London was upstairs from
were the magnificent " Yellow" demo was recorded
- Ed ) . We are very grateful for what Matchbox
Recordings are doing for us. We couldn't be happier. We
hear our song everyday on their station everyday and
because we are part of the Matchbox top 24 on MySpace we
are getting a lot more views and plays
everyday".
Mark
Birch, talented USA artist
- "just got the CD in the mail and it looks and
sounds great. You guys did a great job. Thanks so much for
letting me be a part of it. Thanks again and good luck! Matchbox Recordings are at the forefront of
the future music industry. Never before have I seen such a
desire to be innovative and open to new music from all
around the world. Listeners and artists alike will
be singing their praises for years to come".
Finty Wade, West
yorkshire - "Just to let you know that I got my
CDs today and again, just wanted to thank you guys so much
for everything, i'll definately be coming back
".
Matt
Saxton, solo U.K artist - "It was great to have
my song "Anybody Care" featured on the
"Independent Matchbox Recordings" best of album.
Matchbox Recordings have a great web site and Internet
radio for promoting artists."
Barry
Lawton, Classic songwriter from North England - "Matchbox Recordings gave my material
nothing but encouragement and much
needed promotion and exposure. There seems to be a genuine
interest and enthusiasm for promoting unsigned
artists, whatever there genre, so long as there is
quality on show. No one has a guaranteed right to a record
deal or world domination in this,
of all industries. So it's nice to know some people are
prepared to put the work in and give their time to
put our material out to the world.'
Ronan
Furlong, well known Irish singer songwriter - "Thanks a million for organising the Big Indie
Comeback II cd. It looks and sounds great ! I think that
its fantastic that there is a label out there that is
willing to push new artists as actively as Matchbox does.
I am also very proud to be on a release with so many other
talented artists. Thanks for all of your efforts. Keep
flying the flag !".
Tiago
from Argentinean rock sensation The Kavanagh's -
"Thanks Dale!! You're very supportive and
honest...and that's a blessing!! It's a real pleasure for me and my band, The
Kavanaghs, to be part of the "Big Indie Comeback Vol
2". As you may not know, we're from Rosario,
Argentina, and we're also the first rock and roll band,
from around here, to have a record out in England.
What once was a dream for us, just 4 not-yet-adults, to
get our music into the world consciousness under the wings
of an English label is now as real as the music you're listening
to. Some dreams just need passion and hard work... and
also to be dreamed in order to became real. Thanks to Matchbox
Recordings you can listen all the time to our first
single no matter where you are. We can get right
into your ears and we are hoping to do nothing but good
and send you some good vibrations. Don't stop the
music".
Mutch
Katsonga (The
Indie Soul Movement lead singer/Guitarist and chief
songwriter" - "Matchbox Recordings was the first label to
give our music a significant platform for greater
exposure. Appearing on their 2002 Compilation "Rise
Up" was a great first step.We hadn't even decided on
a name for the group when they got in touch with us and it
was only after the compilation was released along with an
accompanying review that the name came about. They referred
to our music as "Indie Soul" and made reference
to "...a new Indie Soul Movement.." and it just
seemed perfect. We have since recorded our debut album
"Jagged Edge Frontier" which is released on
Orchard/Turmic Records,and is available on over 100
websites including I-tunes and emusic. A forthcoming 2007
album is currently in production, previews can be found on
MySpace(www.myspace.com/theindiesoulmovement).
Matchbox Recordings will always be a prominent part of our
history as artists."
Steve
Jones from melodic pop outfit French Possession - "Just a line to say I received my copy of The Big
Indie Comeback Vol 2 from Matchbox Recordings and it looks
great - really professional. It sounds great too:
lot's of variety, but also plenty of quality. This is an
excellent piece of work".
Jennifer
Dunn from ethereal alternative pop/folk band Gwenevered
- "I did receive my copies of the CD, and I think
it is OUTSTANDING ! So many great artists on there,
and I am loving it ! I'm so glad to be a part of
this great opportunity! Thanks again!
Rosanna,
talented singer/songwriter - "Wishing you all a
great Xmas and fab 2007! Thanks again for all your support
and keep spreading the word.
Kate
Friedrich-Northrop from top Swiss band Moonsnake - "As unsigned artists, being on "the Big Indie
Comeback vol. 2" helped to put us on the map.
We were especially happy to see our song on iTunes".
Alex from
crowd drawing Italian rock project Neural Noise -
" Thank you so much, the box/CD is very very nice, I
really like it . The cover is very nice, I like it because
it's simple but has a great impact. I think that you work
fine with bands. About the compilation ... I have some
words to say to all the unsigned bands that take part in
compilations: Before you become great you MUST BE
great, if you want to become great .... you must be it ...
no one can make you what you aren't so, taking part in a
compilation doesn't mean that you become the most famous
band on the planet .... it only means that people will
listen to your song .... and this is good for you and for
them eheh". ( wow thanks Alex your words are wise
and true, any band expecting an instant ticket to fame
from only appearing on a compilation is clearly deluded.
it takes a lot of hard work and perseverance and of course
this is helped by working with people who care like
Matchbox... but being on a Matchbox one completely gives
you credibility and shows you have a good song. I've
seen them throw so many crap demos in the bin with their
ears blocked pulling funny sick looking faces- Ed ).
Paata
Charashvili, Independent artist and songwriter from
Georgia - "I regularly check the Matchbox
Recordings website and always find lots of new
stuff. I remember when I featured a song of mine on
the compilation "Discovery". I am
pleased to inform you that I have very good memories of
working with you and would be grateful to work again with
you in the future. There really are not many companies who
help Independent and Unsigned musicians to promote their
music like Matchbox do. You are doing a really good
job"
Simon
Astley, up and coming solo artist from Australia -
Thanks very much for sending the 'Stay in the box vol 2' CD. It is great and sounds very professional.
Alan
Proctor, up and coming solo artist from the U.K -
"Matchbox Recordings' services thus far have been second to none. They have delivered everything they have promised and more. Thanks to the exposure Matchbox has given me my myspace page is receiving nearly a thousand more hits a day. The album they included my track 'Two Minds' on, 'Stay In The Box 2', is packed full of quality artists and the variety is amazing. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Matchbox for helping me kick start my music
career".
James
Simpson, Freelance journalist - "As a freelance
music journalist I am always on the look out for hot new
talent and the future stars of popular music. When
collections such as Stay in the Box are released I am
always interested to see what is coming through. Having
purchased this, the latest release from Matchbox
Recordings, 2008 could well be a very promising year for
some of the groups and artists featured.
First off, the idea of creating a compilation album
bringing together so many bands and solo artists from
across many different genres is an extremely ambitious
one. To make this a cohesive document of what is currently
hot is a task in itself. But this time Matchbox have truly
delivered as each track and genre jump effortlessly from
one to the other. The opening track on CD1 sets the tone
perfectly, Mirrorview's 'The Last Ride' is an upbeat and
breezy tune which sets the tone perfectly. One of the most
impressive elements of this album is the way the tracks
seem to effortlessly breeze from one to the other despite
the varying genres. Goodbye Motel's 'All That Bad' is a
prime example of this. It is a contrast to the opening
track yet seems to fit completely with the tone. Other
highlights on CD1 include the outstanding 'Last Chance' by
The Vale and the final track, 'She Feels Free' by talented
singer/songwriter Dylan Lee Jones. Moving onto CD2 finds
yet more contrasting styles. The alt-country fare of disc
opener 'The Traveller' is a highlight due to its catchy
chorus and outstanding musicianship. Further down the disc
come yet more highlights, Lightsource's 'Symphony of
Stars' stands out due to it's irresistable groove. 'Two
Minds' by singer/songwriter Alan Proctor is another album
highlight, especially the fantastic lyrics he has penned
for this tune. A majority of this album is a highlight,
the truth be told. It is always interesting to see what is
coming through and Matchbox Recordings have captured this
expertly. If there was to be any criticism thrown at such
an ambitious project it would have to be the fact that
maybe too many genres were thrown in to the mix but having
said that, Matchbox have done an amazing job to make it as
cohesive as possible.
So if you are looking for something a little different to
fill your Christmas stocking, Stay in the Box 2 is
definately that, and some very pleasant surprises await
you"
