OCEAN BEND
Prestons's finest and most
popular rock outfit are
called Ocean Bend. Their highly anticipated debut album is entitled
" Everyday Life" and is a powerful mix of modern rock with a
classic retro twist. These guys are honest, reliable, dependable writers of
proper rock music that is powerful, melodic, catchy but dark in places with an
underlying sense of the real world and how hard life can be sometimes. These
guys are real. Their stunning debut album features the incredible, driving and
infectious rock gem of a debut single " Chemical Life". The
album and single are released on the 31 March 2008. Footage of the band
and snippets of the album will be appearing on MTV2 during the NME
chart show and Gonzo as part of the official album TV advert so
watch out for that.
HISTORY
Ocean Bend
formed after answering an advertisement placed at The Mill, Rehearsal space,
Preston. With years of experience under their belts in all areas of music
Colin, Damien and Craig were all members of other successful local bands. The
guys quickly gelled to form the winning combination that you see and hear
today.
Ocean Bend have played Preston,
Manchester and Liverpool city gigs along with many small town gigs around
Chorley Bolton Leylland and more and their audience continues to grow in a
rapid way. Who knew throwing a plumber, a mechanic, and a warehouse
operative into a room with a pile of musical toys and gadgets would turn out so
well.
Ocean Bend offer a diverse
sound that ranges from old-school, fine-textured, gritty ballads to rock-your-socks-off
tracks that make you bounce, strut and gyrate ( ooooh this sounds fun - Ed ).
On their way upwards you can be sure these guys will be breaking hearts (and
minor laws) in their search of drink and drums and wenches. If you want
inner peace go take a yoga class, these four wanna teach you about pleasure and
wild abandonment ! ( oooh that sounds even better - Ed )
So grab a beer, turn it up loud and remember the Ocean Bend mantra:"
Carpe noctem! Carpe musica! Carpe cerevisi!"
(Seize the night! Seize the music! Seize the beer!)
THE EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW....Matchbox's
Dale Olivier had a few words with the boys before the night went mad and they
all stumbled home in a rock n' roll daze. He somehow kept his notepad and so
the interview can be seen below....burp.
1. What made you decide to form Ocean Bend tell us a bit about your history
to date ?
heavy rock group Cyanic had come to an end remaining members Craig (drummer)
Col.t (vocalist) got together and decided to start afresh, a new band where anything goes.looking for something with a rock edge slightly lighter than before. First to take up the offer was Chris a wanna be bass player only been playing for five months previous wanted to improve his playing by joining a band.Wanting someone with a bit more band background Col.t and Craig gave Chris the chance to come back after a few weeks (we'll let you know kind of thing). His fate was set when Damo came along for an audition saying he could play lead guitar or bass was there anyone else interested. Chris got the chance to play Bass in a band thanks to his now tutor
Damo.
2. Who or what are your influences ?
because we are all from different backgrounds our music tastes and influences vary quite dramatically. It was not driven by the wish to sound or look like one particular band or person. Our sound derived from the vastness of rock itself a sound evolving from our own ideas rather than a format to follow.
3. What modern artists do you like ?
Paramore, Biffy Clyro, Funeral for a friend, Gossip, Trivium to name but a few!
4. Where did the band name come from ?
its supposed to describe the horizon and the way the ocean bend's into the
sky! people often look to the horizon but can never reach it; they stand in ore at its beauty and magnitude but can never understand its true value to us this is exactly where we are in life, lost in the music at the Ocean's bend.
5. What inspires you to write your music/lyrics ?
The music is written purely to escape the drudgery of everyday life! The lyrics are just stories and feeling of true life events captured by singer/songwriter Col.t
6. Name your all time fave track by another band/artist ?
the wombles of wimbledon; by the wombles....come on!
7. What sort of sound can we expect from your forthcoming album ?
Its what we call revamped rock. A glorious amalgamation of classic rock Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath meets Queen and The Police and several other fundamentals that shouldn't really go together but do. Then blend that with the quirkiness charm of Blur, The Jam and The Red
Hot Chili Peppers. A new uplifting sound cleansing the soul from the darkness of everyday
life. The awakening of rock!
8. What are your ambitions for your music. Where do you see yourself in 5
years ?
In five years time we see ourselves becoming better musicians, writing new music, reaching out to the masses, festivals, stadiums who knows.…!
9. How would you describe your music and what genre do you think it fits
into ?
the genre is definitely rock we describe it as being born out of the working
class having to work your ass off all day just to do something you enjoy in the evening and at
weekends! basically to escape from everyday life.
10. Where is your forthcoming album being recorded and who is producing
?
the album is being recorded at Studio Studio in Facit, Rochdale, Manchester by Peter Troughton and produced by Ocean Bend
11. What's the music scene like in Preston ?
Preston's music scene has been recently revitalised thanks to the help of the Radio 1's Big Weekend back in may (unfortunately we were too busy writing this album to
participate). The 53 Degrees venue is helping to keep a steady flow of popular live
bands in preston such as:Gossip, Hoosiers, Starsailor, Idlewild and The Twang to name but a few. A follow on from preston's Big Weekend came Preston live an outdoor
event under the covered flag market featuring local rock/indie bands. doing a 7 hour marathon of music.
12. Who are the members of Ocean Bend and what do they play ?
Col.t Vocals and Rhythm Guitar
Damo Lead Guitar
Craigy Drums, percussion
Chris Bass Guitar
