Changing
mood completely and blasting us back into rock n' roll mode we have the retro
sonic noise merchants PUBLIC RELATIONS EXERCISE from Leicestershire. This
red hot rock n' roll band give us the incredible space rock anthem " Panic".
Going from sonic, screeching blues tinged guitars, crashing drums and very
distinctive vocals this track leads into a jazzy-esq section that delivers pure
emotional melody. Then all sh.t breaks loose when the riffing guitars explode against
the powerful rhythm section to blast this hotter than hot Mars Volta-esq
masterpiece out of your stereo. Phew.......what an experience that should be
put on repeat as you drink even more lager and shake your rock n' roll heads in
ecstasy. Very good indeed. PRE consist of: Martin Smith, Lloyd Carter, Tom Eve
and Danny Star. Excellent.
The
drums crash and we have JESTER. This hot Dublin based rock n' roll band
deliver the awesome anthem " Shouting in the Streets". This
very explosive and up tempo rock monster features riffing bluesy guitars and a
powerful rhythm section that is tight as hell. The Ian Astbury-esq vocals are strong
and delivered with attitude and swagger. " Wondering, wishing, dreaming
the day away" screams the Jester with confidence and power. Jester
combine an energy fuelled retro rock sound with modern influences to create an
exciting rock experience that does Dublin Proud. Excellent. Jester have recently
come
out of the studio with a brand new album “Stand in Command” which
was recorded and mixed in Kells Co Meath with Martin Quinn from the band
“Turn”. With three accomplished songwriters this brand new album gives off
a real treat of music style. The
full line up is: Lead Vocals - Colly
Dempsey
, Bass Guitar - Phil
Ryan
, Electric Guitar Rhythm - Mark
O’ Dwyer
, Acoustic & Electric Guitars & Backing Vocals
- Matthew Reid
, Lead Guitar - Tossy
Maher
and Jonny Walsh on drums.
The
almighty MURKIN above
Blasting
onto Elevation next we have the wonderful leftfield anti pop punk rock gods MURKIN.
Murkin license the up tempo bluesy rock n' roll track " Teenage Angst".
This song rocks the whole way through and is packed with glorious riffs, a
powerful rhythm section and tons of chugging punktastic guitars. The
catchy and witty lyrics tell the tale of rebellion and booze. Murkin are lead by
the notorious EL GORDO who was lead singer for punkers Wangdango
who supported acts like the UK Subs and The Vibrators. His
live act included the forcing of coconuts up his rear end with a large rubber
mallet and a block of butter ( aaah can I have a go - ed ). After
they disbanded El Gordo formed Murkin and the rest will be history. The full
line up consists of: El Gordo ( vocals ) , BJ Smith ( Guitar ), Nigel
Gaylord Cayless ( Guitar ), Holly ( bass) and Luke the stiff
Ozead on drums. The band describe them selves as anti-pop and deliver
strong issue lead protest songs that don't only get the listener jumping up and
down but thinking also. Check
out what anti-pop is by clicking here. Go to the official Murkin
site to get more news and gigs. Superb proper music with a fast
fix and instant high.
The
PHUCUPZ ANONYMOUZ above
Riffing
onto the Matchbox scene next we have the leftfield Joy Division and Placebo
crossed with Seafood on acid-esq noise merchants PHUCUPZ ANONYMOUZ. They
license the noisy chaotic leftfield song " The Fear of Ducks being alone
in Winter".
"You try to make me hate you " sings singer Louis with passion
and anger. He also plays guitar along with Xander on bass, Doug
on drums and
Krark on Lead guitar and vocals. The band from Lancing in the south of
England were born out of an ensemble for a G.C.S.E performance piece (a bad
cover of Pretty Woman) and are influenced by Old School Punk, Hardcore,
Pop-Punk and metal. All of their influences show but they have created their
own chaotic sound that touches on early 80's bands like Joy Division and The
Undertones crossed with The Offspring. Lovely noise. http://www.phucupzanonymouz.co.uk
is their official website. Tell them we sent you.
sliding
into action next we have the melodic Indie band from Derby called SUBMERGENCE.
The subs license the classic sounding epic Indie track " Stabilized"
to Elevation. This very melodic song stats off with jangly Indiefied guitars,
sexy drumbeat and very melodic vocals that build into the extremely
unforgettable chorus. " Sometimes im' not an angel, but I am stable"
sings leadman Chris Egan with passion and style. Think Dodgy, The
Seahorses and Reef crossed with a 70's esq sing a long REM feel. Submergence
are not your average Indie band but a strong songwriting outfit who deliver
credible Indie songs for the new generation. Jangly, Boppy, Melodic, Infectious
and a great production. The guitar work is very good also and reminds us
slightly of a cross between marr and Squire but in a corner of it's own. The
full line up is: Chris Egan ( vocals), David Rush ( Bass Guitar), Wilford
Johnson ( Guitars ) and Ben Jaffrey on drums. The band describe their sound as
classic but contemporary and we agree completely. Lovely ending with a wall of
echo and reverb also......a top band with substance.

Esperance
in action above
The
groovy, sophisticated, retro but modern Indie pioneers ESPERANCE feature
next with the bluesy stomper " A Thousand You". The drums and
bass are steady in a T-Rex fashion while the guitars riff in a ZZ Top crossed
with Jesus and Marychain manner to create a very interesting mix of modern
Indie pop/rock. This music is gritty, sexy, decadent and also melodic. The
vocals are delivered with style and passion in a sort of Tim Burgess-esq
fashion and grow on you with every play. Esperance are now based in the east
end of London after meeting at university. The have been compared to many
bands from Oasis to BRMC but we think they have their own distinctive but
classic sound. Superb anthem for the cooler Indie kid.

The
fabulous ASTRAL FLYERS above
Sticking
in rock mode we move onto the retro, glorious, rhythmic, groovy and powerful ASTRAL
FLYERS. They are a Leeds based 4 piece
band, comprising of lead guitar, 12 string rhythm, bass and drums. The
very cool flyers combine many different sounds and mix them all together to
create a retro but up to date feel that reminds of a cross between Guns n'
Roses and The Black Crowes on holiday T-Rex and Mott The Hoople. Expect
screeching riffing bluesy guitars, a powerful rhythm section and a chorus that
wakes you up and gets you in party mode. Expect loads of "yeah's" and
vocals that almost reach the heights of Justin Darkness. This is decadent
emotional rock.....yeah. http://www.astralflyers.com/
is the official website for the out of your body flyers. The band describe
themselves as ballsy rock with a palatable twist and we agree completely. They
got their name from an advert that Marc Bolan put in the Melody Maker while
looking for "Astral Flyers" for his new band T Rex. Uplifting
no nonsense rock with sing a long melodies and a lot of passion and wit.
Excellent.

Louisiana
Rock merchants BEG above
The
powerful stadium ready rock band BEG from south Louisiana in the USA
license the energetic rock anthem " Drab" from their stunning
" Don't Make Me Home" album. This inventive grunge-esq track goes
from powerful riffs to more riffs to full on rock guitar solo. Beg don't mess
about and deliver proper melodic but dynamite rock in a sort of Pearl Jam
crossed with Audioslave on a picnic with Sepultura, early Stone Temple Pilots
and Nirvana. Beg don't need to do any begging when it comes to power, energy
and infectious dark melodies. They deliver no nonsense music with a brave tale
behind the lyrics of energetic lead singer Tommy Baguex. The other band
members are: Eric Pierret ( drums), Tiger Daigle ( Lead
Guitar/vocals) and David Guidry ( Bass and vox). Read more
about them and get live gig updates here: http://www.begweb.com/
Last
but not least we have the perfect ender to this album of top quality new artists.
New singer/songwriter Nicolas Rasle licenses the appropriately titled
lo-fi beauty "Departure". This mellow, melancholic
and moody leftfield
acoustic ballad emits tons of emotion and
thought. The lovely finger picked acoustic guitar is dreamy and meanders
gracefully under the Billy Corgan-esq vocals. " I just want to see
the world, touch the skin
of a few more girls" sings Nicolas
in a whispery, forlorn and melodic manner. This song subject covers the idea of
complete freedom and world exploration. This is very bold and different in a
world where a lot of artists have no identity cos they are to busy trying to
sound like the next big thing.Think Mercury Rev jamming with Billy Corgan
around a beach fire. Dreamy and emotional sounds that end this wonderful album
with style and honesty. Lets
go on the Rasle ( shut up and go to bed - ed ).
